Thy Kingdom Come - Help (Petition)
Saint David's, Seddon Street, Naenae
Intercession brings before God the needs of others; in petition, we present our own needs, that God’s will may be done. Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule of theKingdom.
Petitionary prayer remains primary throughout our lives because we are forever dependent on God. In a childlike expression of faith, we bring our daily needs and desires to our heavenly Father.
Text:
Mark 2:1-5, 11-12; Matt 7:9-11
Prayer
Oh faithful God,
help us to find our way through the crowd to you.
Grant us faith to rip o the roof so we may see your face; help us not to mind the mess
when we bring others into your presence for the first time. And if we should
ourselves be paralyzed by fear and indecision
bless us with friends who will place us before your eyes and entreat your healing.
Amen.
This is a prayer guide, designed for use at home and during church gatherings. We start on Ascension Day (Thursday 10 May) and finish on Pentecost (Sunday 20 May). We are joining with thousands of Christians around the globe in an outpouring of prayer.
St David’s will have the usual prayer space happening Mon-Fri morning (7.30-50am), as well as every evening (8.15-9pm)
except Sundays.
A suggested format for each day:
1. Read definition for the day
2. Read scripture (maybe 2 or 3 times)
3. Silence
4. Respond to text in prayer (in whatever creative way you wish – we have made a few suggestions below)
5. Note what God is saying
6. Is there a response needed from you?
Some prayer ideas:
Prayer stones, candles, your own words, words from elsewhere. Use silence.
Use big sheets of paper and paint/draw/write your prayers.
Maybe your prayer is just one word – maybe many.
Maybe try prayer walking - round your street, workplace, neighbourhood.
A prayer challenge: each day, can we pray for people we know to find Christ.
